Events and Management Intern
I've had an amazing experience at Gulf Shores CrossFit this summer and if you are interested in anything to do with either events or the administration/management side of sports I would greatly recommend it! Normally the intern helps with monthly gym events, our annual charity fundraiser, and coordinating athlete travel, housing and support during various local competitions. However, due to Covid-19, all competitions as well as our member events were cancelled.
Job Description
The Events and Management Intern position offers a unique experience of working hands-on in all aspects of fitness. The incumbent will be involved in all phases of programming and administration, as well as daily management and promotion of such programs including group exercise, personal training, special events, wellness programming, customer service, and retail management.

- Learn basic facility management operations.
- Assist in planning, supervising, and evaluating gym operations and member satisfaction.
- Organize, plan and conduct special events.
- Organize, plan and conduct fundraising events.
- Coordinate with vendors for retail sales.
- Assist with registration and become familiar with front desk administrative procedures.
- Assist in planning and supervising athletic programs or tournaments.
- Assist with marketing, public relations, and promotion of programs and other events through flyer development, press releases, social media posts, brochure preparation and other outlets.
- Provide information and assistance to members, drop-ins, and staff.
- Respond to questions, complaints, and emergency situations; take appropriate courses of action.
- Assist in the creation and maintenance of a policy and procedures manual.
- Attend and actively participate in member events

Qualifications
- Ability to lift 50lbs including barbells, weights, dumbells, wallballs, and other gym equipment as needed
- Ability to stand for long periods of time
- Ability to work in a non-air conditioned gym but with large fans and open garage doors
Qualifications
- Pursuing a degree related to the fields of Events, Sport Management, or Tourism
- 18 years of age or older
- Basic knowledge of CrossFit training
- Passionate about sports and events
- Eagerness to learn

- Worked with retail for the first time
- Learned inventory control and tracking procedures
- Learned the administration side of Wodify (a common gym management software)
- Learned how to market towards specific demographics
- Used communication tools such as Mail Chimp and Link Tree
- Learned about the work that goes into the administration/management of a gym
- Learned to modify procedures quickly and implement new procedures to comply with government Covid-19 regulations and mandates
- Increased customer service skills though in-person interactions as well as through social media and email
- Created a social media calendar and greatly increased Gulf Shores CrossFit's social media engagement and marketing
- Prepare procedures and trained personnel to take over the social media and marketing
- Planned and implemented our annual Murph workout
- Developed a beginning and end of shift checklist for the coaches
